Los Angeles had been the odds on favorite to win the division since the best NBA betting sites started putting up their futures odds for the NBA’s conference winners this season. The Lakers won the 2020 NBA title and are favored to repeat as champions but their recent struggles caused by the absence of All-Star forward Anthony Davis has caused their odds to tumble.
Just as the oddsmakers switched the positions of the Los Angles rivals in the Pacific Division odds boards, the Lakers ended their four-game losing streak while the Clippers bounced back after suffering their worst-ever defeat at the hands of the Memphis Grizzlies.

Point guard Dennis Schroder returned from a four-game absence on Friday night to spark the Lakers to a 102-93 win over the Portland Trail Blazers at Staples Center. Head coach Frank Vogel immediately inserted him to the starting line-up and save for some early shooting problems, he showed no signs of rust. Schroder finished 22 points on 6-14 shooting while also adding three rebounds and two assists for the Purple and Gold.
Schroder led a 14-4 third quarter run that broke open what was a close game. Los Angeles never looked back from there as the picked up their 23rd home win of the season while improving to 10-7 at Staples Center. LeBron James led the team with 28 points, 11 rebounds, seven assists, four steals, and three blocked shots while Alex Caruso helped shut down Damian Lillard to 11 points in the second half after erupting for 24 in the first two quarters.
The win ended the Lakers’ four-game losing streak as the defending champions avoided losing five straight games in the Anthony Davis era. Davis is still out of action, nursing his right Achilles tendonosis but with Schroder giving the Lakers the secondary scorer they badly needed, the defending champions are back on track. The Lake Show hosts the Golden State Warriors on Sunday as -5.5 odds on favorites at online sports book SportsBetting.ag.

Like the Lakers, the Clippers also returned to the winners’ circle on Friday night. One day after suffering their worst defeat ever at the hands of the Memphis Grizzlies, the L.A. Clippers bounced back with a 20-point victory over the Grizzlies and keep a one-half game lead over the Lakers in the Pacific Division team standings.
After shooting just 41% from the field on Thursday night, the Clippers responded with a strong 55% shooting performance including 40% from three-point distance. Although the Clippers still allowed 54 points in the paint on Friday, that was still an improvement from the 72 they gave up during their 28-point loss one night earlier.
Kawhi Leonard scored 30 points to pace the Clippers. The 2019 Finals MVP also added nine rebounds and seven assists after scoring just 17 on Thursday night. Sixth man supreme Lou Williams added 17 points for the Clippers who are just 3-3 in their last six games played.
