  • The Kansas City Chiefs open as +550 betting favorites to win Super Bowl LVI.
  • Kansas City lost to Tampa Bay 31-9 on Sunday at Super Bowl LV.
  • The Green Bay Packers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers are the other top favorites to win next season.

Don’t despair Kansas City fans. There is always a next time and the Chiefs are the +550 betting favorite to win Super Bowl LVI in 2022:

According to the early Super Bowl LVI odds posted by William Hill after Sunday’s Super Bowl LV, Kansas City is a +550 betting favorite to bounce back and win next season. The Green Bay Packers are second at +900 while the newly-minted Super Bowl champions Buccaneers are third at +1100.

DraftKings is also offering the Chiefs at +550 to win it all next season. The Bucs and Packers are both listed next at +900 in the same sportsbook. Meanwhile, the Buffalo Bills, Baltimore Ravens, and L.A. Rams are all listed at +1200 while the San Francisco 49ers are at +1400.

Kansas City is also the odds on favorite at +500 via Bovada. The Packers and 2020 NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers are next at +1100 while the Buffalo Bills and the Bucs are tied for third at +1200. The Detroit Lions are in the bottom of Bovada’s Super Bowl oddsboard at a longshot +12500.

Repeat Super Bowl Winners

Repeating as Super Bowl champions is no easy task. Only eight teams have repeated as NFL champions and no team has done so in the last 16 years. But after a strong regular season where they led the league with a 14-2 record and were solid betting favorites to win it all, it looked like the Kansas City Chiefs were going to end the drought.

Kansas City was four quarters away from doing it. They entered Super Bowl LV as three-point betting favorites but could not get the job done. The Tampa Bay defense took advantage of Kansas City’s depleted offensive line and pressured Patrick Mahomes from start to finish. With Mahomes shut down, the prolific Kansas City offense scored just a total of nine points on three field goals. That was all she wrote.

But while the season didn’t finish the way they wanted it to, it’s not the end of the Kansas City Chiefs. Mahomes is locked for the next decade and is coming off a season where he threw 38 TD passes and just six interceptions. There’s no question he will be back, and it won’t be surprise if he comes back even better.

Three-Time MVP

The Packers were betting favorites when they lost the 2021 NFC title game to the Bucs. With Aaron Rodgers winning his third MVP award, there’s no question that Green Bay will be back next season. Tampa Bay meanwhile, is no stranger to being underdogs.

In February 2020, the Bucs were +6000 preseason longshots to win Super Bowl LV. They acquired Tom Brady the following month and as they say, the rest is history. After finishing 2019 with a 7-9 record, Tampa Bay had an 11-5 regular season record this year and finished as the NFC’s fifth seed. They won three playoff games on the road and now are the biggest preseason longshots to win the Super Bowl since the 2001 New England Patriots.

The Buffalo Bills surprised many people by reaching the AFC title game where they lost to the Kansas City Chiefs. If Josh Allen, runner-up to Rodgers in the 2021 NFL MVP balloting, continues to improve, Buffalo will be in the thick of the fight next season. The L.A. Rams saw their odds shorten after trading Jared Goff for Matthew Safford.
